Watch Netflix and Hulu from an overseas military base

Becoming a soldier can be challenging, but it’s also a rewarding life.

However, if you’re assigned or deployed outside the US (Middle East, South Korea, Germany, Kosovo etc.) you’re about to find your evenings a bit boring.

Most likely, you already have a Netflix account back home. But if you try to access your Netflix or Hulu account from the base, you will get the message:

“Sorry, Netflix is not available in your country… yet”, and

We’re sorry, currently our video library is only available within the United States“

Improve your life in the military base!

What to do to make your boring evening a bit less boring? It’s pretty easy, and I will show you how to do it in today’s article. If you don’t have a Netflix account, follow my guide on how to set it up while abroad. Then follow these steps to fix the streaming:

  1. Sign up for VPN service. A virtual private network (VPN) gives you a real US IP address, which makes web sites think you are in the US.
  2. Download and install the VPN software and select any server in the USA
  3. Visit Netflix or Hulu and try it out. Voilà, it works!

Watch Your Content

Sound too simple to be true? With a quality VPN It’s pretty easy to change your IP address and fool Netflix into thinking you’re in the US.

In case you’re wondering whether this procedure is legal or not, let me assure you that this is completely legal. You’re a US citizen, you have a US postal address (APO), and you do have a US credit card. Netflix and Hulu do not have agreements in place to stream content abroad. Most of their movies and TV shows are only streamed to the US.

With a VPN, you can physically reside anywhere in the world but virtually reside back home in Miami or Atlanta. So many sites that are normally blocked will work while outside the US.

You may have noticed that there’s a small fee to using a VPN service. There are free VPN services but are often too slow to work with Netflix, Hulu, or Pandora.

A VPN will unblock the following:

  • Netflix
  • Hulu and Hulu Plus
  • Pandora Radio
  • Restricted YouTube videos
  • CBS
  • ABC
  • Many more Internet sites…
