Router review: D-Link DIR300
D-Link DIR 300 was my first router with VPN support. It’s not very powerful but it’s pretty cheap. It has only 16 megabytes of RAM and 4 megabytes available for flash image. Thus, only crippled version of DD-WRT is available with no openVPN support.
VPN specific features
When it comes to the VPN support, be prepared to erase stock firmware and flash it with DD-WRT. You can find the proper version of DD-WRT firmware for this router here:
In order to set up PPTP connection, you will need to follow this guide:
For L2TP setup guide, point your browser here:
It’s a great router for really cheap price. Although it is a basic 802.11G wireless router with 4 LAN ports, it works quite well actually. There are better alternatives, but if you’re tight on a budget you should buy this one, you won’t regret it.
With both PPTP and L2TP protocols that HideMyAss has to offer, you could easily achieve your goal — connect multiple devices, such as PC, iPod, Boxee Box… and stream movies overseas. So, we are giving it 3 stars out of five.
