Why would I need a router
If you have many devices at home and you would like to connect them all, VPN enabled router is the only way to go. Also, you will need DD-WRT router in case you have Apple TV, Google TV, Roku box, XBox, or Kindle Fire… and you’d like to stream geo-restricted videos.
What router to buy
I would personally recommend Asus RT-N16, Asus WL-500g Premium or Linksys E2000. These three have enough CPU power to run any VPN protocol imaginable.
However, you will need to flash it with a custom firmware (DD-WRT). That could be a little bit tricky, but it’s not too complicated. Also, you can use any other router supported by DD-WRT, openWRT or Tomato.
How to configure DD-WRT router
It’s pretty straightforward process. Once you flash it with a VPN enabled firmware, just follow HideMyAss’ setup guide for PPTP, L2TP or openVPN protocol. Make sure you have the proper Internet connection after which you could connect all your devices through the WiFi or using a crossover cable.
